How to Fix No Service on a Travel eSIM on iPhone
Published March 20, 2026
No Service on iPhone is usually not magic. It is a line that is off, a locked device, bad roaming settings, or a network attach that needs a reset.
No Service is a blunt message. It does not tell you whether the line is off, the phone is locked, or the provider has no compatible network in front of you. That is your job.
The good news is the fix path is short. Do not wipe the phone. Do not start deleting eSIMs unless the normal checks fail first.
Bottom line
Start with line settings, roaming, and carrier lock. If those are clean, refresh the network attach. Most No Service cases die there.
Start with the boring checks
No Service on a travel eSIM is usually a settings problem wearing a dramatic label.
Travel eSIM troubleshooting rule
iPhone fix order
- Go to Settings > Cellular and confirm the travel eSIM line is present and turned on.
- Set Cellular Data to the travel eSIM and disable Allow Cellular Data Switching.
- Turn on Data Roaming for the travel eSIM if the provider says it is required.
- Check Settings > General > About and let carrier settings update if prompted.
- Toggle airplane mode, wait ten seconds, and turn it off.
- Restart the iPhone if the line still shows No Service.
What the status bar is telling you
Read the message literally. It points to the next check.
| Situation | Best next move |
|---|---|
| No Service | Check the line is on, roaming is enabled, and the phone is unlocked. |
| Searching | Reset the network attach with airplane mode and wait a minute. |
| SOS | The phone sees a signal but not a usable plan. Recheck settings and plan coverage. |
| Bars on the wrong line | Move cellular data to the travel eSIM and shut off the home line for testing. |
When it is actually the carrier
If the line is on, the device is unlocked, the travel eSIM is the data line, and roaming is enabled, then the provider might actually be the problem. That is when you ask for APN details, supported networks, or a replacement profile.
Airalo's own iPhone troubleshooting guide says the profile can already be installed even when iOS throws an activation error. That is why it is worth checking the line list before you assume the QR code failed.
No Service FAQ
Should I reset network settings on iPhone?
Only after the normal line and roaming checks fail. It is useful, but it is not the first move.
Can my home SIM block the travel eSIM?
It can steal data traffic or keep switching back if you leave data switching on. It does not block the line, but it can make the phone behave badly.
How do I know if the iPhone is carrier-locked?
On iPhone, check Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock. If it is not unlocked, travel eSIM setup can fail.
